ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Lighted Rat by Bordalo II is a bold and ironic commentary on urban decay and consumerism. Created in his signature aesthetic, this risograph print echoes the sculptural language of his 3D trash animals, here translated into a striking two-dimensional format.
The rat, often seen as a symbol of survival in hostile environments, glows with an unsettling presence, inviting the viewer to reconsider what we discard and what we glorify.
A rare and collectible print, both playful and provocative.
ARTIST BIO
Bordalo II (b. 1987, Lisbon, Portugal) is a contemporary artist known for transforming urban waste into powerful visual statements. A pioneer in ecological street art, he gained international recognition through his large-scale animal sculptures made entirely from discarded materials, which highlight the impact of human consumption on nature.
Deeply rooted in activism, Bordalo II’s work blurs the line between art and environmental protest. By turning trash into beauty, he invites reflection on the contradictions of modern society, where what is thrown away often holds deeper meaning than what is kept.
His installations and artworks have been exhibited in galleries and public spaces across Europe, North and South America, and Asia. With Lighted Rat and other editions, Bordalo II continues to expand his visual language while staying true to his core message: waste is the raw material of our era.
